Last year’s winners

Last year’s awards recognised work across such diverse and groundbreaking areas as the use of health data during the COVID-19 pandemic, successfully involving members of the public in evaluating the work of GPs in Emergency Departments, the future of unpaid carers, and the connection between sleep and mental health.

Could we be celebrating your research in 2023?

The winners will be decided by a panel of judges and announced live at the Health and Care Research Wales Conference at the Swansea Arena on Thursday 12 October 2023. The winner of each category will be awarded funding of up to £250* to attend a training course, conference, workshop or similar event to develop an area of their research skillset. (*Where possible this must be claimed within the current financial year, by 31 March 2024).

Professor Kieran Walshe, Director of Health and Care Research Wales, said: “The theme of our conference this year is people make research, and these awards are indeed a fantastic opportunity to recognise and reward the teams and individuals behind some of the often life-changing research happening in Wales.

"Each year the judges are both impressed and inspired by the quality and innovation of the research submitted. I’m sure this year will be no different, particularly in our new award category which celebrates Innovation in Practice across the entire research study process, from design to dissemination.”
