New 999 R.E.S.P.O.N.D resources transform trauma care practices

The Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust (WAST) has launched a brand new set of resources aimed at improving pre-hospital care, thanks to findings from a study funded by Health and Care Research Wales.
The 999 R.E.S.P.O.N.D study analysed real-world data on managing and responding to medical emergencies, identifying critical patterns in decision-making, communication and collaboration among emergency care teams.
Combining sociolinguistic expertise with the practical experience of frontline emergency care providers, the research examined how trauma teams negotiate risks, make critical dispatch decisions and prioritise care under intense pressure.
These insights have led to the development of publicly accessible training resources, Landscaping Risk in Medical Emergencies, which is designed to support healthcare providers, inform policy and enrich training programmes.
Professor Nigel Rees, Assistant Director of Research and Innovation at WAST said: “We are delighted to receive the funding from Health and Care Research Wales, which has been key in supporting this study. We are also pleased to leverage the study’s findings to develop these resources that will ultimately strengthen trauma response capabilities across Wales.”
