Professor Monica Busse to leave Health and Care Research Wales for new research leadership role
29 August
Health and Care Research Wales would like to wish Professor Monica Busse, Director of the Health and Care Research Wales Faculty, our congratulations as we confirm her departure to a new post at a prestigious English University.
Since the Faculty’s launch in 2022, Professor Busse has led its development with vision and purpose, establishing a strong foundation for supporting research careers across Wales. Her leadership has helped establish the Faculty as an integral part of Health and Care Research Wales, coordinating personal awards (such as fellowships and research time awards), creating career development opportunities, promoting equity and inclusion and creating a visible and supportive community of practice.
At a UK level, Monica has ensured a strong Welsh contribution to the development of UK research careers strategy, working to fostering a skilled and innovative research workforce dedicated to improving healthcare outcomes in Wales.
In her role as Health and Care Research Wales Senior Research Leader, Monica has demonstrated both research leadership and excellence across the UK and internationally, specialising in the development and evaluation of complex physical and psychosocial interventions for chronic health conditions. Her research has a particular focus on promoting lifelong brain health and improving access to health services for under-served groups.
Michael Bowdery, Head of Programmes at Health and Care Research Wales, said:
It has been a joy working with Monica whose experience, knowledge and enthusiasm have been instrumental in driving the development of the Faculty and the quality and range of personal awards we now offer. The Faculty, Health and Care Research Wales and, most importantly, researchers looking to develop their careers in Wales, will benefit from the contribution she has made for many years to come.”
