Michael Bowdery

Head of Programmes

Michael is responsible for the oversight of Health and Care Research Wales research funding schemes, research development infrastructure, UK partnership working (research funding opportunities), cross-funder initiatives and budget monitoring. Since 2016 he has represented Health and Care Research Wales on the international Ensuring Value in Research Funders Forum (EViR). He is currently chair of the EViR Steering Group (Ensuring value in research - EViR).

Michael also has seven years active research experience as a behavioural psychologist in the School of Psychology, University of Wales Bangor. His research interests include the development and modification of children’s food preferences and aspects of philosophical ethics and moral philosophy. He has also worked for Swansea County Council Social Services Department and has experience of working with children with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour in care, play and educational settings. 

Michael has also worked as a media officer with responsibility for both media relations and the management of the Chief Medical Officer’s website. He has experience of crisis management, through secondments to the Welsh Government’s Agriculture Department and Foot and Mouth Inquiries Team.
