Biography
David is a Vascular Surgeon working in the South East Wales Vascular Network (SEWVN), an honorary senior lecturer at Cardiff University, and Associate Medical Director of the Research & Development department in ABUHB.
His primary research interests include amputation surgery, wound healing, surgical site infection, peripheral arterial disease, aortic aneurysm surgery, collaborative research, and decision making.
He has led national and international research projects in these areas, and has been awarded more than £2million in funding from NIHR and Health and Care Research Wales. He is the Chief Investigator for the NIHR HTA funded PLACEMENT study, looking at improving pain after amputation surgery.
He is the deputy chair of the Vascular Society Amputation Speciality Interest Group, editor of the European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery (EJVES; top ranked vascular surgery journal globally) and the Journal of the Vascular Societies of Great Britain and Ireland (JVSGBI). He chairs the Research Committee of the British Society of Endovascular Therapy (BSET) and is a senior committee member of the Vascular and Endovascular Research Network (VERN). He is the Research Lead for the SEWVN.
He is chairing the 2027 European Society of Vascular Surgery Major Lower Limb Amputation guideline writing group, which will be a new international guideline on the pre-, peri- and post operative management of patients undergoing amputation surgery.
