Health and Care Research Wales launches 2024 conference programme

21 August

With just over a month to go until the ninth Health and Care Research Wales conference on 10 October, we are excited to unveil a comprehensive programme including expert speakers from across health, social care, Welsh Government and more.

Announcing the programme, Professor Kieran Walshe, Director of Health and Care Research Wales, highlighted the importance of research and how it is crucial for driving change and tackling the most urgent challenges within our health and social care systems. This year's conference features a particular focus on women's health as one of Welsh Government’s key commitments along with other TED-style talks from our speakers.

Among the confirmed plenary speakers are:

  • Owain Clarke, BBC Wales Health Correspondent
  • Professor Mark Drakeford MS, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care (Interim) / Baroness Eluned Morgan MS, First Minister of Wales
  • Dr David Price, Honorary Consultant Physician, Swansea Bay University Health Board

Four parallel sessions will include a range of speakers discussing topics including:

  • Improving Women’s Health: advancing sex and gender equity in health and social care research.
  • How research can help tackle the grand challenges in adult social care
  • Climate change impacts on health and social care – what are the implications for researchers and research funders?
  • Partnerships: Is greater collaboration between HEIs, NHS and local government needed to drive investment in research and improve patient care?

Professor Walshe added: “I am proud to highlight the research excellence and achievements across Wales at this conference, with a special emphasis on the inspirational individuals and teams whose relentless efforts are pioneering new developments and making a significant impact on people and communities throughout Wales.”
